Although it may seem as if it is one big room, the main dining room on the Independence of the Seas is actually three restaurants on three different levels of the ship. These are the Romeo and Juliet, the MacBeth and King Lear dining rooms, each of which has its own kitchen. You have a variety of options to choose from for each meal of the day, which include vegetarian cuisine and choices just for children.

There is traditional seating in the dining rooms for dinner, but open seating prevails for breakfast and lunch. Also it is only the Romeo and Juliet that is open during the day and there is a buffet available here at lunch time. You can also select My Time dining for dinner, which means you do not have to adhere to a set time for dining and can just walk in at any time or make reservations.

If you prefer a more casual atmosphere and attire, the Windjammer Cafe offers buffet style dining at all times. There are plenty of tables and food stations set up around the room offering a wide variety of cuisine means there are no long lines to contend with. There is no outside seating in this venue as there is on other ships of the fleet.

Another dining venue located quite close to Windjammer is Jade, which serves Asian cuisine for dinner. It is only open from 6 to 9 each evening and you do not need to make reservations or pay a sitting fee in this venue.

There are two alternative restaurants on the Independence of the Seas where reservations are required and a per person fee. These are the Chops Grille serving the choicest cuts of meat and steaks prepared just the way you like them. If you feel in the mood for Italian cuisine, the other specialty restaurant is Portofino’s where you can have a veritable feast of pasta and other specialty dishes along with fine Italian wines.

Step back in time to the 1950’s when you sit down to a feed of burgers and fries at Johnny Rockets. Old time tunes play on the jukebox and the milkshakes are thick and creamy. This is one venue that will certainly make you feel as if you are in one of the TV shows from this decade.

As you stroll along the Royal Promenade, stop into Cafe Promenade for a cup of coffee or tea, a mouth watering pastry or have a sandwich. Sorrento’s serves pizza by the slice and the array of flavours at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream will make you want to try them all.

Room service is available 24 hours a day serving full meals as well as sandwiches and salads. The cost of this service is included in the price of your fare although there may be a small charge for late night service.
