NEWS: The Costa Concordia has run aground near the island Isola del Gigli' of the coast of Italy.

Since the main focus of the cruises aboard the Costa Concordia is spa and fitness, this is the central theme of the ship. There are four swimming pools, two of which have retractable roofs. Weather won’t stop you when you want to exercise in the pool early in the morning before you get ready for breakfast or at any time of the day. The pool area called the Lido Riviera Magica is adults only, while the smaller Lido Riviera Mediterranneo is reserved for families cruising with their children. There is also a smaller splash pool with a waterslide that is only for children, but this pool is not open when in times of inclement weather.

The Samsura Spa on the Costa Concordia is an impressively large area taking up about 25,000 square feet of the ship. It spans two decks and includes a variety of treatment rooms where you can have basically any kind of treatment you wish. There are saunas and steam rooms for couples and those suited for groups of people. Each room has a soothing and exotic theme in its decor which is designed to evoke a sense of relaxation.

The spa has two tanning areas as well as lounge chairs where you can soak up the rays of the sun on the deck. The fitness center has a wide range of modern fitness equipment that includes rowing and weight machines, a variety of stationary and spinning bikes, as well as the standard treadmills, elliptical machines and stairmasters.
Take a class in Pilates, Yoga, spinning or aerobics or if you wish you can hire your own personal trainer for the duration of your cruise. In this way you can have a workout program designed for your needs and level of fitness.

The outdoor walking and jogging track is not only a great way to get in your daily exercise, but you get the benefit of the fresh ocean breeze and the glorious sights of the sea. Engage in a basketball or volleyball game or hone your golfing skills at the driving nets. You can also forego using the elevators to take you from one deck to another and take the stairs.
