Splendour of the Seas image
As we are new to cruising, this being our first sea cruise we did not know what to expect, however we were very pleased. We only had an indoor cabin which was a an error as we did not realise how dark it would be, but it was clean if a bit 'tired'. The ship is due for a refit so we expected this. The staff were very freindly and helpful and our cabin kept clean. lots of clean fresh towels.
The ship was a nice size and easy to get around. Lots of lifts for those who can't use the stairs. Good pools and sun chairs were in abundance.

Pulling away from Venice was magical and a must see from the highest point you can get to.
We did not pre book any trips as we like an adventure. Most of the places we visited can be done on foot or use the local transport and if you wish you can book a tour on board anyway.
The shows were very good and we enjoyed the live music around the ship. The Schooner bar was very livley and the evening pianist a great character.

The resturant was excellant and the food very good with lots of choice. We went 'my time' dining and had no problems getting a table. We did a couple of nights on a table for two which was easy to book if you were eating early as we did. Other times we shared a table and this was a good way of meeting new frends. Occasionally the service was very slow and got slower the later we ate so better to eat before 7.30 if you can.

I was disapointed that the dress code for the restaraunt was not always adhered to. People were not turned away when they came to dinner in shorts and t shirts, the Windjammer is the place to eat if you cannot be bothered to get changed. The food at the Windjammer was vast in quantity and quality and always fresh.
The wine was very expensive to buy on board so the pre cruise drinks package is actually a saving even though it seems expensive at first. Water was left in our cabin with fizzy drinks but we did not have a fridge to keep them cool and as they were overpriced they were all put out of the way and we collected water from the Windjammer. I feel there should have been drinking water points on all decks as it was very hot.

There were children on the cruise who were well entertained and on the whole well behaved. The staff seem to have a problem in getting the guests to keep to the rule of children not being allowed in the solarium pool. This is the only place children can get thier fix of hamburger and fries so perhaps this is poor planning.

Because the drinks were so expensive we brought most of our dollars home. If the prices were lower we would have bought more drinks and Royal Carabbean would benifit.
Overall we had a great time and are already looking to cruise again with Royal Carabbean
