Independence of the Seas image The Independence of the Seas is one of the newest and most innovative cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. It has a carrying capacity of 4375 and has an international crew of 1360. There are 1082 outside cabins and 733 interior cabins on the 14 passenger decks of the ship. With 8 restaurants and numerous bars and lounges, you will find everything on this ship designed with your comfort and pleasure in mind. The Royal Promenade is equal to the size of three football fields and resembles a city street that is lined with duty-free shops, bars and restaurants. There are also special sale kiosks open on the days at sea where you will always find a bargain. Check out a book from the library, stay in touch with those at home in the Internet Cafe or even use your laptop in your cabin. There is a small chapel on the ship for weddings at sea, but there is no clergy on board the ship. Business cruisers can avail of meeting facilities with the latest in technology for conferences at sea. There are three pools on the ship and an extensive program for children and teens. Along with the gym where you can work out, there is a padded track for walking or jogging, a rock climbing wall and a FlowRider for those who want to give surfing a try.

How bad can a cruise be starstarhalf starhalf starhalf star by ray edgar on 19/03/2012

We booked on the Canaries trip 2/2/12, we arrived to book in at our alloted time 1pm but the queues were horrendous, a woman made a comment to RCL staff about the delay in boarding and was told in a snappy manner that there was 3500 guests to be boarded. The queue was something the Russians would have been proud of, it took nearly 3 hours to board. The cabin was fine and comfortable. There was no ....Read full review

Having been on the Independence of the Seas before, we knew what to expect. Everything went smooth but I think we may have been lucky, some passengers had to queue for quite a while. We had a balcony cabin this time and we were delighted with it, and we used the balcony every day. We had breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer and ate in the MacBeth dining room in the evenings. The staff in there we....Read full review

Very Impressed starstarstarstarstar by Fiona Walpole on 11/01/2012

Just got back from an 11 night new years cruise around the canaries, first time cruising with RCL,had such a fab time, although it was a bit choppy (gale force 9) crossing the Biscay there was so much to occupy you that it would be almost impossible to notice (unless you are one of those people who just like to complain ) we meet some great people and had an absolute ball every day and night-so look....Read full review

Keeping up standards starstarstarstarstar by val kay on 20/12/2011

November 29th was the start of our second 18 night cruise this year on IOTS. Although very large and glitzy one cannot fault the ship, the staff, ALL who are really lovely people, the food which is also excellent and beautifully served. Sometimes the food could have been hotter but given the size of the ship and the logistics of moving food about it is superb. There were some people who complained....Read full review

This was our 1st cruise what and experience. Could not fault the ship facilities and attention to detail. The staff were always very very helpful and pleasant. It was more like a 10 star floating hotel. No more package holidays for us, Already started looking for next year....Read full review

never again starhalf starhalf starhalf starhalf star by joanne frayne on 18/08/2011

What a let down this cruise is! Where do i start? Kids running riot at all hours, running about almost knocking over elderly people, pressing all buttons in lifts, in games room throwing cards ect all around the room, could go on but could be here all night. Queing to go into dinner most nights. Very poor entertainment during the evening, if there is any possibility of getting a seat (unlikely).....Read full review

If you want a cruise for people who 'dont do cruising' then book this one. Formal nights consisted of 50% of people going to dinner and being allowed in the restaurants in jeans, trainers and football shirts. the service in the restaurant we were in was very slow normally taking 2 hours for your dinner so always rushing to get to a show (if there was anything decent on- which normally there w....Read full review

holiday to remember starstarstarstarstar by j gallagher on 03/05/2011

This was our first holiday abroad in 10 years as I no longer enjoy flying. We thought a cruise would be too expensive for a family of 4, but third and fourth occupancy added together and then divided by four worked out as a bargain. When we entered the ship and saw the fifth floor with the shops and bars, then explored further we were taken aback by the sheer size of the ship and the wow factor. ....Read full review

Not perfect but not too far from it starstarstarstarstar by Dot Cleary on 08/03/2011

I went on this cruise with my sister, we booked a junior stateroom as the cruise was for 18 nights, and we wanted natural light in our room as well as treating ourselves since we have never been on a cruise before. We stayed in a B&B and got a cab to the dock, I found a company in Southampton who took our luggage down a couple of days before the cruise as we decide to go by train. It was worth....Read full review
